CBCenter & FAIM: Healing the Body with Autologous Adult Stem Cells

Berkley Bedell has been one of my life's best friends. He built one of the largest fishing tack companies in the world the went on to join the US Congress for many years and founded the Foundation for Alternative and Integrative Medicine which he asked me to be one of the founding directors. We have maintained a close relationship over the years. Below is a summary of the foundation and its goals, as well as, information on treatment that is curing Cancer, Parkinson's, MS and many other diseases and issues by using our own stem cells rendered from our own fat. The sad thing is that these treatments are not currently allowed in the US due to FDA rules. We need to write our representatives and tell them that we need these treatments here in the US now. - Cabell Brand

The Foundation for Alternative and Integrative Medicine (FAIM) identifies effective alternative therapies using a four-pronged systematic approach:

Site Visits
FAIM makes site visits and screens clinical practices and protocols brought to our attention from all around the world to determine the level of supporting evidence and assess the feasibility of pursuing further research.

Conferences
FAIM attends conferences around the world to pursue its search for effective, non-toxic, and low-cost alternative therapies. Conferences also offer the opportunity to network with brilliant, inventive minds and connect scientists/physicians/practitioners with common goals and interests.

Retrospective Studies and Clinical Trials
FAIM conducts retrospective reviews of the medical records to determine if the treatment or protocol merits further evaluation. FAIM creates cooperative relationships with other research facilities or awards grants for clinical trials to determine the safety and efficacy of targeted promising therapies.

Networking to Integrate New Therapies into Practice
Upon determination of efficacy and safety, FAIM shares the therapies with hospitals and clinics around the world for integration into the health care system. FAIM reports all findings on the FAIM.org website and participates in conferences to further disseminate information.

FAIM's mission is to create a revolution in worldwide healthcare through the following means:

Investigation
Search the world for effective, nontoxic, and low-cost alternative medical therapies.

Research
Conduct retrospective studies and partnership with medical facilities, foundations, hospitals, and universities for the development of clinical trials to demonstrate the effectiveness of a therapy.

Implementation
Disseminate information on new frontiers in science and medicine and encourage adoption of cost effective therapies through global networking, conferences, publishing books, and internet web site postings.

Healing the Body with Autologous Adult Stem Cells

One FAIM project involves the revolutionary practice of using the body’s own healing system, autologous adult stem cells. It seems that about every one hundred years there is a new medical paradigm shift that changes the way we look at healthcare. Two hundred years ago Edward Jenner had a flash of insight that milkmaids seemed to be immune from small pox. He realized they had all had cowpox and deduced that the immunity carried over to small pox. It was the beginning of the theory of vaccines. This was a big step 200 years ago. Then one hundred years ago Dr. Flemming discovered penicillin which has also created a huge shift in medicine. Today the discovery of the body’s own regenerative organ system- autologous adult stem cells is struggling to get the credibility it deserves. It is the most incredible discovery of the century, yet the FDA is keeping it from the American public by placing it wrongfully within its jurisdiction. Imagine if the system, one hundred years ago, had deprived the public of antibiotics!

Research has shown when there is any type of cell injury or cell death, cytokines are poured into the blood stream to the bone marrow. These cytokines stimulate the bone marrow to produce stem cells and release them back into the blood stream. The cytokines at the site of injury behave as homing devices and in this manner the autologous adult stem cells find the target tissue needing repair or regeneration. Autologous adult stem cells give off their own cytokines which stimulate healing as well as having the capacity to become regenerative cells, as needed. It is an incredibly intricate system that we have just discovered in the last ten years.

However, sometimes the body needs more stem cells for repair than the body is capable of delivering. This is when disease or failure to heal results. Doctors and institutions have developed guidelines and protocols for the multiplication of harvested autologous adult stem cells. These therapies have been used in veterinary medicine for at least eight years and for humans in clinics around the world. France, Spain, Israel, Germany, China, Mexico and Panama all allow autologous adult stem cell procedures and all are higher than the United States on the WHO Health Performance ranking.

The Legislature, upon creating the FDA and throughout history, has reconfirmed regularly that the FDA cannot regulate the Practice of Medicine. The FDA only has jurisdiction over practices which threaten the public at large. This is done to allow “physician innovation” to move medicine into the future in a timely fashion. The State Medical Boards are put into place to make sure that physician innovation does not become a danger to the patients in their states. Physician innovation has propelled many life saving medical practices into the mainstream practice of medicine very quickly, sparing patients from suffering.

We are at a cross road today with the use of autologous adult stem cells. Using your own stem cells is definitely a procedure that is between the doctor and the patient making it the Practice of Medicine. Even when the patient’s stem cells are multiplied to assure a more successful procedure, it is still only between the patient and the doctor. No other people (especially the public masses) are threatened by this procedure. It is the job of the State Medical Board to enforce clinic and laboratory guidelines to insure safety for the patient.

There are millions of people who could benefit by having access to this medical option. It is not only our moral obligation to embrace this for the sake of the suffering millions, but also for the sake of trying to salvage a healthcare system that is in the throes of financial collapse. We are at the 100 year mark of medical miracles and we must realize this and ensure it becomes reality here in the United States. The amount of money that can be saved by using our own healing organ system (autologous stem cells) to heal is staggering compared to the cost of treatments that are available through the current medical system. We are being offered a light to lead us out of this dark place and we must not let special interest groups, big money, and regulators with questionable motives blow out the light.

Sadly, the healthcare system in the US is broken and that is evidenced by the tremendous dollars spent, yet our citizen’s overall level of health is ranked 72nd worldwide according to WHO. Making changes in the healthcare system is going to have to be a priority. We have an opportunity to recognize this, embrace the discovery of this self-healing system and make it available to the patient. There are only benefits with this relatively safe and effective approach. This 100 year paradigm shift in medicine, with the discovery of this innate healing system, must be given the opportunity to flourish here in the United States for the benefit of those in need.

Suggested Afghanistan Policy - Follow-up

Dear Mr. President,

Please recall your instincts when you decided to run for president of the United States. No one gave you a chance, but you knew the mood of the American people and waged a brilliant campaign against all odds to win the support of the American people in a dramatic election.

I fear that you are not trusting your instincts now. You have been misled by your staff in virtually every realm of policy to concede compromises on critical issues confronting the country. I confess that I no longer can distinguish your “compromises” from capitulation to your political opponents.

As you prepare for your 2011 State of the Union Message, I strongly suggest that you recover trust in your instincts. Do what you did in Philadelphia on your racial-divisions speech.

The recent disastrous mid-term election results have emboldened Republicans to conclude that their policy is right. They are not, but they will not agree to anything that puts you in a favorable light, regardless of the damage they would do to our nation. You should position yourself in 2011 to direct policy toward what is right for the country, regardless of Republican intransigence and obstructionism. They seek to defeat you in every way they can.

You have tried hard to compromise, but as a result, you have not lived up to your campaign promise of changing the way Washington works. You need to explain to the American people the way Washington should work. This can be your legacy.

Please start with the war in Afghanistan. You campaigned against that war, and you’ve tried to do as you promised on Iraq. But as indicated in my attached letter to you a year ago, you inherited the morass in Afghanistan. Now your adversaries have labeled it “the Obama war.”

We must get out of Afghanistan. You know it. Your instinct tells you that. As Commander-in-Chief, you can do this. The threat to our national security comes from al-Qaeda and those terrorists who want to destroy America. The military has confused a civil war led by the Taliban with the larger threat to our national security posed by al-Qaeda.

You have allowed your military advisers to extend the withdrawal process to 2014. I urge you to stick with your original plan for withdrawal by the end of 2011, an action consistent with America’s long-term strategic interests in a globally coordinated campaign against international terrorism. The current, almost unilateral U.S. policy of a two-front war is not in our national interest. Too many lives have been lost, too much money spent.

Also attached is a summary report from the Afghanistan Study Group, which explains all of this clearly. But you know this instinctively.

Equally important for you as we near 2011, you should aggressively advance the cause of health care, financial regulation, the environment, education, poverty and hope for every American. The coming year will be critically important for the country as well as your re-election, because your actions in the next 12 months very well could determine the nation’s fidelity to our broad democratic principles for decades to come.

For example, in financial regulation, the banks have taken advantage of the American people. I urge you to use your leverage even further with the Federal Reserve and with the financial regulations to jawbone the banks into lending money for business growth. You may not be able to get new tax legislation passed, but you can position yourself for what’s right.

You also should use additional Federal Reserve funds to stop all foreclosures on occupied homes. You know the tragedy of Americans losing their homes. The banks don’t care. Mr. President, I implore you to use your position, in the interest of the common welfare, to make them care.

Please do not over-compromise on the extension of the tax credits for the wealthy. The wealthy have benefited enough. A possible compromise would be to limit tax increases to those with incomes greater than $250,000 in adjusted gross income and $1 million for businesses. But that’s all. These tax cuts never should have been implemented during the Bush administration in the first place, contributing as they did to the huge budget deficit that you inherited.

The country does not have enough jobs. I urge you to follow through on your plans for increased education opportunities, and use the $100 billion to be saved each year by leaving Afghanistan to improve the infrastructure in the United States, with emphasis on alternative energy, the electric grid, and transportation.

Use the presidency in 2011 to advance the nation, not further political gridlock. Start with the war and then financial regulation. Trust your instincts on the broad policies and instruct your staff to follow through by fully exercising your lawful powers on behalf of the American people.

You have an unusual opportunity as president to lay out an august and hopeful agenda, consistent with the hopes and aspirations of the American ideal. You have much the same opportunity that faced Franklin D. Roosevelt in his State of the Union messages in 1943, 1944 and 1945. Rise, Mr. President, to that opportunity.

Sincerely,
E.Cabell Brand

Suggested Afghanistan Policy

Dear Mr. President,

You successfully campaigned against the Iraq War and are doing the best you can to remove our combat troops from Iraq. Thank you.

You also inherited the NATO war in Afghanistan, which is not just a United States war. The original strategy developed eight years ago was to eliminate the Al-Qaida terrorists from that country. This has been done. Reports today show there are less than 100 such terrorists left in Afghanistan.

Times have changed. Thank you for the careful consideration that you are giving to a new strategy.

My suggestion is that you should not make a United States decision on increasing troops to Afghanistan. This is not a United States decision. This should be a NATO decision.

My proposal is that you call for an immediate summit of all NATO nations and invite China, India, and Iran to participate. The problem today in the world is with global terrorism - - groups of fanatics who want to destroy the ways of life in all of the countries listed above. I suggest this summit be held in either London or Madrid, countries who have also suffered terrorist attacks like, our 9-11 tragedy.

Many of the original Afghanistan terrorists are now in Pakistan, but they are also in many other places as proven by their attacks in several other countries. They will go to any country where they can operate to accomplish their goals, including the US, England, Spain, Germany, Somalia, Yemen, and Sudan.

The purpose of the summit is to develop a new global strategy for all countries to work together to eliminate these terrorist organizations. This is a multi-generational problem.

As you know Afghanistan does not have a functional democracy, and never had. The main goal of the people of Afghanistan is basic security and the delivery of fundamental infrastructure services such as water and electricity.

There is no role for combat troops in this effort. We should ask each country to provide large financial resources to help the Afghan people and also other countries such as Pakistan to create functional democracies with basic security and infrastructure.

This bottoms-up strategy must be done by the local people, particularly the Afghans, but it will probably take as much money as we have been spending on combat troops. NATO nations and the other participants of this summit need to help. This must be a coordinated global strategy to fight terrorism wherever it arises. And this program needs to be reviewed and revised regularly as conditions change.

Far from a retreat, this is an aggressive positive program with a long range goal to develop the core ingredients for peace, security, and free enterprise, with respect everywhere for human rights.

We must show the world that this is the way to live.

This global cooperative effort for peace can also be used to help the necessary movements on critical environmental issues and the reduction of global poverty.

As we develop this strategy, you can use your skills first in negotiation and secondly in explaining this to the American people.

Sincerely,
E. Cabell Brand
